City Pages founder Tammy Stesenski steps down from editor role

WAUSAU — Tammy Stesenski, who in 1993 founded the City Pages alt-weekly in Wausau, is stepping away from the newspaper several months earlier than planned, she announced last week in a column.

Stesenski had served as managing editor since February, after selling the newspaper to Multi Media Channels. The original plan following the sale was for Stesenski to stay on in that role through the end of January 2021. But given the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, she is leaving now to help the newspaper financially.

Editor Brian Kowalski will take over the lead editorial role for City Pages. Kowalski spent a brief stint with the newspaper from January 2008 to August 2009 during which he worked as a reporter and copy editor. He went on to cover local government and crime for the Stevens Point Journal from June 2010 to November 2014 before returning to City Pages.

Stesenski, who was 25 when she launched City Pages, wrote that she hopes to take a few months off before moving on to whatever comes next.
