Coding your notices

Wisconsin state statute requires that an electronic copy of all legal notices be published on WisconsinPublicNotices.org. In order to make sure your notices appear on the site, newspapers must include the code WNAXLP on all pages that include legal notices.

If you have questions or you have forgotten to use the code in a published edition, please contact WNA Media Services Director Denise Guttery at denise.guttery@wnanews.com

Ballot inserts

The newspaper publication of election ballots — considered public notices — is required by Wisconsin law.

As election times approach, specific care must be given to the publication of the ballot as an insert or ROP in the newspaper. If the ballot is published ROP, it must contain the WNAXLP coding on all pages where ballot information is printed.

Newspapers should contact their county clerk to determine the method of publication that the county intends to use for the ballot. If the county plans to publish the ballot as an insert — and the insert will be provided to your newspaper as a pre-print — the newspaper should request that the WNAXLP code be included on each page of the ballot.

Explain, if necessary, to county representative that Wisconsin statute requires all legal notices published in newspapers also appear on the WNA’s public notice website.

If the county provides you with a pre-print insert that does not include the WNAXLP coding, please forward a copy of the insert, either electronically or by USPS, to the WNA for coding. The WNA will code and post the ballot to the public notice website.
