Digital journalism pioneer Mandy Jenkins dies at 42

Mandy Jenkins, a digital news leader who worked as a news producer for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel from 2004 to 2007, died Sunday, Feb. 26, in Zanesville, Ohio, after nearly four years of cancer treatment. She was 42.

She most recently worked as Head of Product at Factal, a breaking news technology company, and previously served as General Manager at The Compass Experiment, a partnership between Google and McClatchy to explore sustainable business models for local news, wrote Carrie Blazina for the Online News Association. Jenkins served eight years on the ONA Board, including a term as president from 2018-19.

O-W Enterprise purchased by thepaperboy.news group

Last month, John McLoone's thepaperboy.news group of newspapers purchased the O-W Enterprise from NJL Media LLC and publisher Nathan J. LePage, on the heels of just having purchased The Sentinel & Rural News, which serves the same area, from Multi Media Channels in November.

LePage will remain with the newly formed Enterprise-Sentinel through the transition period and plans to step down this summer, after 17 years with the paper.

Milwaukee Press Club announces 2023 Sacred Cat and Headliners Awards

The Milwaukee Press Club will honor its 2023 Headliners, Derek Mosley, director of Marquette University Law School’s Lubar Center for Public Policy Research and Civic Education and George Stanley, former editor of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and regional editor of USA TODAY Network Wisconsin, on Friday, May 12, at The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee.

During the event, the press club also will honor Anna Wolfe, an award-winning investigative reporter for Mississippi Today, as its 2023 Sacred Cat Award honoree, as well as winners of the 2022 Excellence in Wisconsin Journalism competition

George Stanley to join Multi Media Channels

In March, George Stanley will join Multi Media Channels (MMC), the publishing company of The (Green Bay) Press Times, as the company’s Local News Initiatives Adviser.

In his role, Stanley will work with the Pass it Forward internship program, as well as other company initiatives to nurture a healthy community journalism environment in the state. Stanley stepped down as editor of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in January.

Mark Lewis named regional president for APG

Longtime media executive Mark Lewis has been named regional president for Adams Publishing Group-Southern Wisconsin. The news group includes The (Janesville) Gazette, Beloit Daily News, (Fort Atkinson) Daily Jefferson County Union, Watertown Daily Times, Antigo Daily Journal, (Marinette) EagleHerald and Hometown News Group.

Lewis, who previously served as publisher of The (Racine) Journal Times and has 30 years of experience in the industry, succeeds Orestes Baez, who in January was named CEO of TravelHost
