Vilas County News-Review names Eric Johnson assistant editor

Eric Johnson has been named assistant editor of the Vilas County News-Review, the Eagle River newspaper announced Wednesday.

Johnson is the former editor and publisher of the Boulder Junction-based FYI Northwoods News, a bi-weekly newspaper he owned from 2010 to 2018. Johnson also worked for The(Minocqua)Lakeland Times and, most recently, as the business reporter for The(Racine)Journal Times.

Former longtime Chetek Alert sportswriter Langhough dies at 92

Dr. Orville A. “Orv” Langhough, who for more than three decades served as a sportswriter for The Chetek Alert, died Saturday, Jan. 2, in Eau Claire. He was 92.

Beginning in the 1960s, Langhough covered high school football and basketball for The Alert. He continued in the role for more than 30 years until he retired in 2000.

The Chronotype to move offices to new Rice Lake location

The (Rice Lake) Chronotype will move to a new location at the end of January, leaving its home of more than 60 years, the newspaper announced Wednesday.

The building at 28 S. Main St., which was not included in the August 2014 sale to Adams Publishing Group, was recently sold by the newspaper’s former owners.
