Jeff Seisser named lead sports editor for APG Southern Wisconsin

Jeff Seisser is returning to Adams Publishing Group as lead sports editor for its southern Wisconsin newspapers.

Seisser stepped down from his previous sports editor role with APG in April, after more than 30 years in the newspaper industry. He had been serving as sports editor for the Sun Prairie Star, The (Waterloo/Marshall) Courier and The Cambridge News and Deerfield Independent. He previously held the same role for the Daily Jefferson County Union in Fort Atkinson.

In his new role, Seisser will oversee the sports departments at all 15 of the newspapers that comprise the APG Media of Southern Wisconsin group, including the Beloit Daily News, The (Janesville) Gazette, Watertown Daily Times and all of the former Hometown News publications.

Former Herald Independent editor Pat Kwallek dies at 88

Patricia "Pat" Kwallek, who served for many years as editor of the Grant County Herald Independent, died last month, the Lancaster newspaper reports. She was 88.

Kwallek started at the Grant County Independent in the 1950s, stayed on through the merger with the Grant County Herald and remained with the newspaper in various roles until her retirement in 1986. During more than 30 years with the Herald Independent, Kwallek served as a reporter, columnist, editor and photographer. She also was a correspondent for The Capital Times in the 1960s and 1970s, writing stories and shooting photos of Lancaster-area news for the Madison newspaper.

Michelle Drew named news editor of Vilas County News-Review

Michelle Drew, who has served as an assistant editor of the Vilas County News-Review since 2019, has been named news editor of the paper. Her promotion comes following the retirement of longtime editor Gary Ridderbusch.

An Eagle River native, Drew has been with the News-Review since March 2017, when she joined as a part-time lifestyle editor.

Gary Mays returns to The Monroe Times as reporter

Gary Mays, who a decade ago served as news editor of The Monroe Times has returned to the paper as a reporter.

A native of Rockford, Ill., Mays earned his bachelor's degree from Illinois State University, where he served as editor of The Daily Vidette student newspaper. He went on to work in both public relations and newspapers, including the Chicago Tribune, the Wisconsin State Journal, The Journal-Standard in Freeport, Ill., The Daily Journal in Kankakee, Ill., and The Monroe Times. He served as news editor of the Times from August 2010 until September 2011.

Multi Media Channels buys The Sentinel & Rural News

Multi Media Channels has purchased The Sentinel & Rural News, a weekly newspaper based in the Owen-Withee community in Clark County. The sale was finalized Wednesday, Dec. 22.

Publishers Travis and Nicole Rogers announced their decision to sell and bid farewell to readers in their respective columns. They plan to continue contributing to the newspaper, including writing weekly columns. The Rogers were part of a four-person team that started the newspaper in March 2014.
