Paula Kay (Davel) Fredrickson, a longtime writer for The Dodgeville Chronicle, died on May 15, 2022, following a brief illness. She was 76.
Fredrickson was born on Aug. 12, 1945, in Macon, Ga., to Paul Davel and Patricia (Foster) Davel. She was raised in Loyal, Wis., and studied journalism at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
After college, she was hired by the Blanchardville Chamber of Commerce to write stories about local businesses. She began her 38-year newspaper career with the Blanchardville Blade-Atlas, and went on to work for The Dodgeville Chronicle, The (Mineral Point) Democrat-Tribune, and the Pecatonica Valley Leader.
In addition to reporting on local business and government, Fredrickson wrote hundreds of feature stories chronicling the colorful history of the communities that she covered. Her interviews with World War II veterans are considered priceless to many area families.
A private service was held on May 21 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Blanchardville. The service can be viewed by family and friends here.
