Inter-County Leader editor Tabern to launch new book at June 10 historical society meeting

Entitled “The Soo Line’s Sixth Subdivision: Dresser Junction to Duluth,” the 300-page book took nearly a year for Inter-County Leader editor Robert Tabern to research and write. It is the only book to cover the history of the Soo Line subdivision between Dresser and St Croix Falls in 1887, between St. Croix Falls and Frederic in 1901 and between Frederic and Duluth in 1911.

A June 10 presentation by Frederic Inter-County Leader editor Robert Tabern to be given at the St. Croix Falls Historical Society annual meeting will be the launch of his new book.

A June 3 article in the Inter-County Leader covered the history talk and book. According to the story:

Entitled “The Soo Line’s Sixth Subdivision: Dresser Junction to Duluth,” the 300-page book took nearly a year to research and write. It is the only book to cover the history of the subdivision between Dresser and St Croix Falls in 1887, between St. Croix Falls and Frederic in 1901 and between Frederic and Duluth in 1911.

Tabern also serves as president of the Midwest Rail Rangers, which is co-sponsoring the June 10 presentation and book signing at Pepper’s Library Lounge at the Historic Auditorium, which is located at 210 N. Washington St. in St. Croix Falls. The roughly one-hour presentation will be followed by time for questions.

A railroad historian and author who has published nearly 30 books during the past 17 year, Tabern has authored a popular three-volume book series about the Mark Twain Zephyr streamliner undergoing restoration at the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad in Spooner. Most of Tabern’s books serve as railroad route guides for Amtrak trains.

A limited supply of Tabern’s new book, also available online at midwestrails.com, will be sold for $39.95 at the book signing event.

The presentation is free and open to the public. Donations to the St. Croix Falls Historical Society and the Midwest Rail Rangers are welcome but not required.
