USA TODAY announces new VP of news

Jamie Stockwell

USA TODAY has hired Jamie Stockwell to serve as vice president of news effective on March 30, according to a piece in the March 12, 2026 issue of the Wausau Daily Herald.

Stockwell’s experience in large complex newsrooms includes recent experience as deputy managing editor of news at The Washington Post. She began her journalism career at the Washington Post as an intern and later as a metro reporter covering criminal justice issues for nearly eight years.

She went on to hold senior editing roles at The New York Times as deputy national editor, and the San Antonio Express-News, where she served as managing editor. She also played a key role in building Axios Local, serving as executive editor during its rapid expansion from eight to 30 markets.

Stockwell will report to USA TODAY Senior Vice President Monica Richardson as they work to grow the company’s broad national audience with “unbiased, high-impact journalism,” company officials said.

“USA TODAY has a powerful mission and a unique place in American journalism,” Stockwell said in a statement. “I’m honored to join this highly respected newsroom of accomplished journalists as we work together to embrace modernization and cut through the noise and deliver journalism and content that informs, empowers and connects people across the country.”
