Gilbert, in a tweet on Wednesday, said he was retiring after 35 years as a political reporter for the Journal Sentinel. The newspaper’s Washington bureau chief, Gilbert has covered every presidential campaign since 1988 and chronicled Wisconsin’s role as an important swing state in national elections.

A graduate of Yale University, Gilbert started his career as a reporter for the Kingston (N.Y.) Daily Freeman from 1980 to 1982. Following a brief stint as a speechwriter for then-Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Gilbert joined the Miami Herald as a reporter in 1984 and Journal Sentinel in 1986.

Though he is retiring from the newspaper, Gilbert noted he is not done working. Through a fellowship with the Marquette Law School’s Lubar Center, Gilbert will be doing Wisconsin political analysis that will appear in the Journal Sentinel later this year.

Haudricourt, in a tweet on Thursday, announced he plans to retire after 36 years of covering the Milwaukee Brewers and Major League Baseball for the Journal Sentinel. In a public Facebook post, Haudricourt explained the timing behind his decision to retire and move back closer to family in Virginia. He also noted that he plans to work for another month or so as the newspaper searches for his replacement.

Since starting on the Brewers beat in 1985, Haudricourt has won numerous awards for his work. He was named Wisconsin sportswriter of the year by the National Sports Media Association four times, including back-to-back honors in 2018 and 2019.

A University of Virginia alumnus, Haudricourt spent the first decade of his career reporting for newspapers in his home state. Following graduation in 1976, he worked briefly for the Manassas Journal Messenger before joining the Richmond Times-Dispatch. During eight years at the Times-Dispatch, Haudricourt covered the Richmond Braves minor league baseball team, which inspired him to pursue a career covering MLB.
