Ferolie takes over the role previously held by Sid Schwartz, who retired in April. In his new role, Ferolie will oversee six daily newspapers and nine weeklies, including the Beloit Daily News, The (Janesville) Gazette and the Watertown Daily Times.

A native of Rockford, Ill., Ferolie earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona in 1994. He started his journalism career in Oregon, serving as a sports reporter and copy editor for the Corvallis Gazette-Times from August 1997 to November 1999.

Ferolie’s next stop was the Quad-City Times in Davenport, Iowa, where he served as a sports copy editor from November 1999 to December 2004. He left in 2005 when he was named editor of the Macomb (Ill.) Eagle.

In April 2006, Ferolie moved to Wisconsin to serve as editor of The Verona Press. He went on to hold the role of group editor for all four newspapers in the former Unified Newspaper Group. In August 2020, he was named general manager for UNG, a role he held until the newspapers were sold to O’Rourke Media Group in June 2021.

Most recently, Ferolie served in a newsroom development role for O’Rourke, working with newsrooms in Wisconsin and Vermont.
