After sharing Madison.com with the Wisconsin State Journal for the last 25 years, The Cap Times is launching its own website, the newspaper announced Friday.
Beginning Monday, The Cap Times’ website will move to captimes.com. The URL currently redirects to the newspaper’s section of Madison.com, but will soon link to its new digital home.
Paul Fanlund, editor and publisher of the newspaper, wrote that the new website would highlight The Cap Times‘ distinctively Madison-centric approach. Whereas the old website included state and regional news from the State Journal and other Lee Enterprises newspapers, captimes.com will be “as Madison as it gets.”

The announcement also noted a new Cap Times mobile app is in the works but did not specify a timeline for its launch. Additional website features highlighted by Fanlund include:
- A cleaner, simpler experience across all platforms
- Reduced and more local advertising
- No paywall or requirement to register to use the website
- Better search engine optimization thanks to the new URL
