Joseph Fumo, who started his career as a Wisconsin newspaper reporter before going on to become an author and technical writer, died Monday, May 24, at his home in Black Mountain, N.C. He was 66.
Born June 20, 1954, in Kenosha, Fumo was the son of Mario “Bob” Fumo and Elvia Villani Fumo. He graduated from Tremper High School in 1972 and went on to earn his journalism degree from UW-Madison.

Early in his professional career, Fumo worked as a reporter for The Mauston Star, the Beloit Daily News and The (Passaic, N.J.) Herald-News. He later became a technical writer, most recently working for Trane Technologies.
Fumo also had a passion for creative writing, which led him to author five books of humorous and satirical fiction, with a sixth to be published soon.
A celebration of his life will be held this summer in Milwaukee.
