FORT ATKINSON — Through a partnership of library and newspaper groups, all past issues of the Daily Jefferson County Union are now available online, the Fort Atkinson newspaper announced last week.
The Daily Union completed the first round of its project in 2017, digitizing newspapers from 1870 to 1891. With the completion of this second phase, readers can now access issues dating from 1870 to 90 days ago through the WNA’s Archive of Wisconsin Newspapers, which is hosted by Badgerlink.

The digitization project was funded with help from the Bridges Library System, the Dwight Foster Public Library of Fort Atkinson and its Friends of the Library, and the Fort Atkinson Community Foundation. The Bridges Library System, which counts public libraries in Jefferson and Waukesha counties among its members, provided $12,500 as primary funding for the second phase of the project.
The WNA-maintained newspaper archive is free for all Wisconsin residents and includes issues dating back to 2005 to 90 days ago for more than 250 daily and weekly newspapers in the state. Historical issues from the 1800s and 1900s also are available for newspapers that have completed similar digitization projects as the Daily Union.
