A native of Menominee, Mich., Mullins was hired in 1986 as lifestyle editor of the Marinette Eagle-Star, a position she held for two years before joining the Menominee Herald-Leader as a news reporter. After the newspapers merged in 1995, Mullins became a regional reporter covering health and environmental issues for the EagleHerald.

Mullins spent her last 12 years with the EagleHerald in various editor roles, including news editor, online editor and digital director. In that role, she continued to work as a reporter, covering local government meetings and other public events.

Also retiring with Mullins, according to a post on the EagleHerald Facebook page, are press manager Roger Zink and reporter and page designer Tim Greenwood.
