Students, host newspapers sought for summer internship program

The Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation is accepting applications from students and member newspapers for consideration to participate in the 2018 WNAF Internship Program.

Up to five interns will be placed at up to five WNA-member newspapers across the state during the summer of 2018. Schedules will vary based on the newspapers’ needs, but interns will earn approximately $3,200 for an eight-week, full-time internship.

Students are asked to submit a completed application along with a short essay about their personal philosophy of journalism’s role in society, published work samples and optional letters of recommendation to support their application. Internships will be awarded to students enrolled in accredited colleges and universities and interested in reporting, editing, advertising, marketing, photography or other newspaper roles. Consideration will be given to students who show professional promise and interest in a career in newspapers.

Participating newspapers will receive a stipend from the WNA Foundation to help cover costs, but must provide at least $1,200 in matching funds for intern wages.

The deadline for students and host newspapers to apply is May 1, 2018.
