WNA Foundation announces 2020 student contest winners

The WNA Foundation on Tuesday celebrated Wisconsin’s outstanding student journalists, announcing the winners of its 2020 collegiate and high school Better Newspaper Contests during a virtual awards ceremony.

The ceremony highlighted all winning entries and included videos from winners of the contests’ top prizes, General Excellence and Collegiate Journalist of the Year. The program can be watched on-demand here.

The 2020 WNAF Collegiate Better Newspaper Contest featured 300 entries from 12 campus newspapers across 20 categories. The Marquette Tribune took home top honors in General Excellence.

Collegiate Journalist of the Year went to Patricia McKnight of Media Milwaukee at UW-Milwaukee.

The 2020 High School Better Newspaper Contest featured 86 entries from six student newspapers across 12 categories.

The Lance (La Follette High School), The Viking Voice (Gibraltar High School) and The Pulse (Indian Trail High School and Academy) received the top three honors in General Excellence. The schools’ journalism programs each will receive a $1,000 Branen Scholarship along with the awards.
