The Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation on Dec. 2 will begin accepting applications for its 2022 summer internship program. Internships are awarded to students enrolled in accredited colleges and universities and interested in reporting, editing, advertising, marketing, photography or other newspaper roles. Consideration is given to students who show professional promise and interest in a career in newspapers.
In an effort to provide students with a more valuable experience, the WNA Foundation is extending the internships from eight to 12 weeks beginning with the 2022 internship program. Selected interns will be placed at WNA newspapers across the state and will earn approximately $4,800 for a 12-week, full-time internship. Schedules will vary based on the newspapers’ needs.
The WNA Foundation is currently accepting host newspaper applications for its 2022 summer internship program. WNA member newspapers interested in participating in the 2022 internship program should apply by Nov. 28.
Newspapers selected to host a 2022 summer intern will receive a $3,000 stipend from the WNA Foundation and will be required to provide $1,800 in matching funds. This is an increase from past years due to the increased length of the internship. Host newspapers agree to provide a positive environment where the intern is mentored and supported throughout the program. Preference will be given to weekly newspapers.
