Virginia A. Barager, who was born Jan. 27, 1915, in Melrose, found her way into the newspaper business through marriage.
She graduated Eau Claire Teachers College in 1935 and proceeded to teach elementary students in Humbird, Waupun and Owen. In 1935, she married her husband, James Barager, editor and publisher of the Owen Enterprise.
Barager began to work part-time with her husband at the newspaper office. When Barager’s husband died in 1976, she assumed the roles of editor and publisher, which she held until 1989.
She died May 31, 2005, at her daughter’s home in Madison. She was 90.
