Timothy “Tim” B. Werner, former publisher of The Sheboygan Press, died Sept. 28, 2008 at age 80.

Werner, who guided The Press from 1964 until the paper was sold in 1986, graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1946. He continued his education at Georgetown University, earning his bachelor’s degree, and served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Europe from 1951 to 1953.

Werner married his wife Lisette in 1959 and several years later succeeded his father, A. Matt Werner, at the helm of the family-owned paper. He directed the business and production end of the operation until the paper was sold to Ingersol Newspapers in 1986.

Werner, who was deeply involved in the community, started at the paper in 1953 as a pressman and spent several years in that capacity. He also spent time in the editorial and production areas of the paper. Werner was named a director of the paper in 1958 and six years later its publisher.

Werner was one of three brothers to have managing roles in the newspaper. John Werner became editor of the paper in 1964 when their father retired as editor, publisher and president. Anthony Werner was named company president to succeed his father.

Werner is survived by his wife, Lisette, and four children.
