Sidney H. Bliss, former publisher of The (Janesville) Gazette, was a third-generation newspaperman.

The family first took over operations of the The Gazette in 1884, and Bliss came aboard in 1923. He previously worked at the Minneapolis Journal, where he developed classified advertising sales techniques that gained widespread industry acceptance.

At The Gazette, Bliss worked as display advertising manager until his father’s death in 1937. Bliss and his brother, Robert, then became co-publishers of the paper.

Throughout his time at the family newspaper, Bliss served as co-publisher, company president and board chairman of the Janesville Gazette Printing Company and Southern Wisconsin Radio, Inc.

Bliss died June 17, 1969, in Delavan after several years of illness. He was 68.
