Roselyn M. “Ramblin Rose” Calek, former editor of the Westine Report in Union Grove, was born June 14, 1929, in Berwyn, Ill.

She graduated from the University of Illinois, and on May 22, 1954, she married Robert Calek.

Prior to the Westline Report, Calek worked at the Fox Lake Press in Fox Lake, Ill. She was involved in her community beyond producing its paper, serving as a municipal judge for the town of Dover. She also served as secretary for the Chamber of Commerce for the Greater Union Grove Area for seven years and, in 1984, became the organization’s first woman president.

Throughout her life, she was a member of other organizations, including the Community Advisory Committees of the Robert E. Ellsworth Correctional Center, the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Retirement Center and the Alliance for the Mentally Ill.

Calek died June 4, 2001, in Burlington. She was 71.
