Robert M. Gonyo owned and published The Berlin Journal Co. newspapers from 1978 until his death on March 8, 2002. He was 67.

Born Sept. 4, 1934, in Berlin, Wis., Gonyo graduated from Berlin High School in 1952. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. He then went on to do undergraduate work at the State Teachers College of Oshkosh and earned his law degree from UW-Madison.

Gonyo began a private practice in 1963, which he kept until the time of his death. He also served two terms as District Attorney for Green Lake County and, along with his brother Clayton, owned the former Gonyo Real Estate Office. Gonyo was a member of the Bar Association for Green Lake County, as well as the State of Wisconsin.

On Dec. 19, 1969, Gonyo married Patricia R. Cross in Berlin.

In 1978, he purchased and began publishing The Berlin Journal newspapers.
