Robert J. Seltzner’s natural curiosity and talent for writing brought him to many places and provided him with many opportunities. He served as an investigative reporter, journalist, editor and publisher throughout his career.

Seltzner was 84 when he died Nov. 3, 2012, in Portage. He was a 1946 graduate of Sun Prairie High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after World War II, and attended La Crosse State University to study journalism.

Seltzner’s publications included the Sun Prairie Countryman, (now the Sun Prairie Star), La Crosse Tribune, The Stevens Point Daily Journal, The Daily Calumet, The Villager, The Kansas City Star, Du Page County Newspaper, Portage Daily Register, and Portage Press. During his time in the Chicago area, he managed several political campaigns and served for three consecutive terms as the president of the South Chicago Chamber of Commerce.

He and his wife had two daughters and two sons, nine grandchildren.
