Robert J. Hart, publisher and editor of The Glidden Enterprise in Ashland County, died January 9 at the age of 84.
He was honored at the 2005 WNA convention in Appleton when The Enterprise, which had been in his family for more than 100 years, was given a “Century Club” award. Since the first publication, the Hart family faithfully put out the weekly edition, never missing a single issue.
He was a lifelong resident of Glidden except for service in the Army Air Corps during World War II “flying the Hump” — the Himalaya Mountains — between India and China.
Long active in community activities, Hard was instrumental in founding the local Athletic Association and the Little League program, and was commander of the Glidden American Legion Post.
