Mervin E. Hansen owned and served as the vice president of the Kaukauna Times Printing Co., later known as Quantum Printing. He died Dec. 16, 2001, at age 87.
Born and raised in Denmark, Wis., Hansen became interested in printing during his high school years when he worked at the Denmark Press one summer. In 1932, he accepted a position in the print shop at The Kaukauna Times Printing Co., which was owned and operated at that time by Hansen’s brother, Carl. A quick learner, Hansen became a jack-of-all-trades at the company and was promoted to production foreman in the 1940s when the company’s operations expanded.
He continued to work to keep the letterpresses rolling until offset printing began to dominate the scene. Working as a compositor until November 1979, Hansen started to slow down his work pace in order to enjoy his hobbies of bowling, dartball and golf. However, he remained vice president through 1991, when he sons, Glenn and Lyle, took over the business. He was honored in 1992 for 60 years with the company.
