Marshall N. Bernhagen, former publisher of several Wisconsin newspapers, was born June 15, 1946, in Beaver Dam to Milton and Violet (Sandberg) Bernhagen.
He married Joan Vsn Loo on Sept. 30, 1967, in Markesan. They had one son together, Jason Bernhagen.
Bernhagen started his career at Citizen Publishing in 1973. He eventually went on to publish the Waupun Leader News, Columbus Journal, Markesan Herald and the Randolph Advance. He was active in many community and business organizations.
Bernhagen died April 23, 1996, in Madison after battling cancer. He was 49.
