Marian Adams and her husband Jack spent 41 years at the helm of The Belleville Recorder, her hometown newspaper.

Born on March 3, 1925, in Belleville to Casper and Virgie Wallom, Marian graduated from Belleville High School in 1943. She married the love of her life, Jack Adams, in March 1944. They set up residence and both worked for The Belleville Recorder, which Jack’s parents had owned since 1939. Jack and Marian bought the Recorder in 1950 from Nena Adams, Jack’s mother. They ran the newspaper together for 41 years until it was sold to their daughter and son-in-law.

Marian, co-owner of The Recorder and full-time mother of four, also made time to be an involved community member. She was active with the Belleville PTO, Community Club and First United Church of Christ Women’s Guild. In her later years, she was a member of the Sugar River Singers, Senior Citizen Advisory Council and on the Belleville Area Cultural Foundation Board.

The Recorder was in the Adams family for 68 years. Owned today by News Publishing, Inc. it merged with the (New Glarus) Post Messenger in 2008 to become the Post Messenger Recorder.

Marian died at age 87 on March 14, 2012.
