Margaret E. Rogers, longtime publisher of the Winneconne News, died Jan. 8, 2011.
Rogers was born Sept. 3, 1920, to Martin and Merle (Taggart) Gilbertson in Eau Claire and graduated from Augusta High School. She married Clarence Rogers June 22, 1940, in Waukon, Iowa. They lived in Augusta one year and then moved to Middleton until Clarence enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942.
Following the war, they lived in Clintonville, Delavan and Muskego before coming to Winneconne in 1953 to take over the operation of the Winneconne News. Margaret assisted Clarence in the operation of the business throughout the years and assumed the role of editor upon the retirement of her husband. She continued in that capacity when their son, John, purchased the business. He continues to publish the paper today.
Margaret was an avid follower of the Winneconne Wolves High School sports teams and also loved the Packers, Bucks, and Brewers. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Winchester and Giles-Luce American Legion Auxiliary and its Past Presidents’ Parley.
