John F. “Jack” Newman spent 26 years in university communications for the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
During his career, Newman served as coordinator of the statewide communications service, director of UW-Madison News Service, and he taught broadcast news in the journalism school. He also was a Fullbright visiting lecturer at the National School of Journalism in Managua, Nicaragua, from 1964 to 1965.
Newman worked as news director and as a sportscaster at WIBA-Madison from 1948- to 1957 as well as WKBZ in Muskegon, Mich., from 1945 to 1947. He was a daily news reporter with the Muskegon Chronicle from 1940 to 1941 and edited the U.S. Army Air Corps weekly newspaper in Chanute Field, Ill., from 1941 to 1945.
Newman coordinated the fall conference for the Wisconsin Newspaper Association for many years.
He died on May 5, 2002, in Nekoosa.
