Born on August 29, 1938, in Stillwater, Minn., to Benedict A. and Gertrude (Torsch) Fazendin, Joe Fazendin attended high school in St. Charles, Minnesota, and graduated from Winona State College. He married Barbara Ernster on April 28, 1962, in Caledonia, Minnesota.
Fazendin went on to work at the St. Charles Press in Minnesota, IBM in Rochester, and owned the Fulda Free Press for three years. In 1968, he and Barbara moved to Stanley and purchased The Stanley Republican. He served as the paper’s publisher for more than 35 years, until selling the Republican in 2004.
Fazendin died on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at his home in Stanley. He was 83.
