James Raymond Barager, former longtime publisher of the Owen Enterprise, was born in Owen in 1928. He married Virginia Berg in 1944, and together they had four children.
Barager attended Eau Claire State Teachers College and served as a municipal judge and alderman in Owen, as well as a member of the Owen-Withee School Board.
For the last two years of his career, Barager served as editor and publisher of the Owen Enterprise.
He died March 17, 1989, at age 60.
