Harold Blackburn Atterbury, former publisher and owner of the Dodge County Independent News, was born April 13, 1909, in Ontario, Canada, to Richard Henry and Eleanor (Boone) Atterbury.
A graduate of Kean College and Columbia University, Blackburn served with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. He later taught graphic arts to high schoolers in Belleville, N.J., and college students at the New Jersey State Teachers College and Carnegie Institute of Technology.
He transitioned to New England district sales manager for the Intertype Company before relocating to Wisconsin in 1958. He purchased the Hustisford News and merged the paper with the Juneau Independent four years later before selling it.
During his time in Wisconsin, Blackburn served on multiple local committees and taught photography at Hustisford High School. He was a member of the Wisconsin Newspaper Association and the Wisconsin Press Photographers Association, among other groups.
Atterbury died March 21, 1995, at age 85.
