Bruce Brown, co-publisher of the Oconomowoc Enterprise, died Feb. 18, 2014, at the age of 87. Brown was also a past president of the National Newspaper Association.
Brown moved to Oconomowoc in 1936, the same year that his father, C.W., bought the paper. Brown learned to operate the pressroom machines when many men were drafted in World War II. He became a full-time employee of the paper in 1949 and was made responsible for the paper’s commercial printing operations.
“He was a leader and it wasn’t in words, it was in actions,” his son Brad Brown said. Brown was committed to the Oconomowoc community with the Enterprise, but also as a member and past president of the Rotary Club, a member of the Foundation of the Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital and the board of directors for the Oconomowoc Area Foundation. Brown loved sailing and was a member of La Belle Yacht Club.
