Mark Lewis named regional president for APG

Longtime media executive Mark Lewis has been named regional president for Adams Publishing Group-Southern Wisconsin. The news group includes The (Janesville) Gazette, Beloit Daily News, (Fort Atkinson) Daily Jefferson County Union, Watertown Daily Times, Antigo Daily Journal, (Marinette) EagleHerald and Hometown News Group.

Lewis, who previously served as publisher of The (Racine) Journal Times and has 30 years of experience in the industry, succeeds Orestes Baez, who in January was named CEO of TravelHost.

Ardis Bloom Swenson, former publisher of The Stanley Republican, dies at 95

Ardis Bloom Swenson, former publisher of The Stanley Republican, died on Jan. 27. She was 95.

Ardis and her late husband, Ralph, moved frequently as he grew his newspaper business. In 1960, they purchased The Stanley Republican, where they worked together until 1964, when Ralph died at the age of 39. Following his death, Ardis became publisher and editor of the newspaper, and wrote a column "The Melting Pot." She sold the newspaper in August 1968 to Joseph Frazedin of Fulda, Minnesota.

Jean Vanden Branden, former Compass reporter, dies at 94

Former reporter Jean A. Vanden Branden died on Feb. 14 at the age of 94.

A native of Green Bay, she was born on Sept. 21, 1928, to Helena (Denissen) and Charles Katers. She graduated in 1946 from St. Joseph’s Academy in Green Bay. Later, she obtained her broker’s license in real estate and worked as a reporter for the Catholic monthly newspaper, The Compass. 

Ringgold joins Courier Press as sports editor

Andrew Ringgold, owner of Aringo Photos, has been named sports editor of the (Prairie du Chien) Courier Press, the newspaper announced.

A native of Philadelphia, Ringgold received a bachelor's degree in international relations from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In addition to his service in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army, Ringgold has held senior manager positions at various organizations.
