Thomas Torinus, former newspaper owner and editor, dies at 82

Thomas R. Torinus, a longtime journalist and former newspaper owner, died Friday, Jan. 8, in Egg Harbor. He was 82.

Following his graduation in 1960 from Dartmouth College, Torinus worked as assistant to the general manager of the New York Daily News. He later returned to his home state to work for the (Appleton) Post-Crescent, where his father, John Torinus, was editor. He and his two brothers later bought the Herald-Leader in Menominee, Mich., where Torinus served as editor for six years until it was sold in 1982.

The Denmark News has added contributing writer Patti Mulcahy to its reporting staff, the newspaper announced Friday.

Mulcahy is a southwestern Wisconsin native and has been a resident of the Denmark area for more than 20 years. She has worked in a variety of fields over the years, including milking her own cows as a dairy farmer.

Vilas County News-Review names Eric Johnson assistant editor

Eric Johnson has been named assistant editor of the Vilas County News-Review, the Eagle River newspaper announced Wednesday.

Johnson is the former editor and publisher of the Boulder Junction-based FYI Northwoods News, a bi-weekly newspaper he owned from 2010 to 2018. Johnson also worked for The(Minocqua)Lakeland Times and, most recently, as the business reporter for The(Racine)Journal Times.
