David Haynes retires from Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

After a journalism career spanning more than four decades — nearly a third of which was spent at the Milwaukee Journal SentinelDavid Haynes has retired, the longtime editor announced in a column published Dec. 15, his last day.

During his tenure, he has served as education editor, enterprise editor, business editor, opinion editor, founder and editor of Ideas Lab, and community engagement coordinator. In his farewell column, Haynes looked back on his career, reflected on the threats facing local journalism, encouraged readers to support newspapers and lauded his colleagues.

Longtime Wisconsin journalist Ed Byrne dies at 74

Edward Byrne, a longtime Wisconsin journalist, died on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the age of 74. Most recently, he worked as a reporter for The Brillion News, where he covered local schools and government. He held the position for 13 before suffering a major stroke on April 1.

Prior to joining The Brillion News, Byrne served as a reporter an editor for Gannett newspapers in Wisconsin — including the Green Bay Press-Gazette and (Appleton) Post-Crescent — from 1996 to 2008.
