Dr. Travis L. Dixon is Professor of Communication and the Communication Alumni Professorial Scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Professor Dixon is a media effects scholar who specializes in investigating the prevalence of stereotypes in the mass media and the impact of stereotypical imagery on audience members. He has written dozens of academic papers that systematically assess the content of racialized media imagery and the impact of these biased depictions on viewers. In addition to the University of Illinois, Dr. Dixon has held faculty positions at the University of Michigan and the University of California, Los Angeles.
