Connie Mae Lessard, the former owner and publisher of the Four Seasons shopper in Hayward, died Jan. 28. She was 85.

Francis Martell, who once owned a weekly shopper in Menomonie, died Saturday, Jan. 19, at age 90.

Steve Ehle, a longtime Madison-area journalist who served as Stoughton Courier Hub editor, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, after a battle with pneumonia.

Lee Henschel served as the newspaper’s publisher, editor, reporter and business manager for more than 20 years — a run that lasted right up until his death.

After graduating from Gilman High School in 1948, Bonita Mrock worked in the area as a newspaper editor, a waitress and in a chiropractic office.

Robert Toerpe, who owned and managed the Washington Island Observer for 20 years, died Friday, Dec. 14, at age 85.

Jean Greenway, a Wisconsin native who in the 1980s served as a newspaper correspondent in southern Africa, died Tuesday, Nov. 27. She was 91.

Joann Renberg, who worked for more than 30 years as a reporter at the Kenosha News before retiring in 2005, recently passed away at age 83.

Dorothy Gessert, a former journalist, died on Dec. 2. Gessert wrote for many newspapers and periodicals in Rock County throughout her career.

Eugene Ringhand, who worked 42 years at the (Eau Claire) Leader-Telegram, including 12 as editor, died Monday, Dec. 3. He was 82.
