Mark Nesbitt joins Unified Newspaper Group as assistant sports editor

Mark Nesbitt, formerly of the Monroe Times, has been named assistant sports editor for Unified Newspaper Group, which includes the Oregon Observer, Verona Press, Stoughton Courier Hub and Fitchburg Star.

He takes over the position from Anthony Iozzo, who is moving to the Twin Cities area after eight years in the role. Nesbitt spent the last 10 years covering sports and education at the Monroe Times and previously worked as a sports reporter at the Sauk Prairie Eagle in Sauk City.

An Illinois native and Illinois State University graduate, Nesbitt will work alongside UNG sports editor Jeremy Jones to cover local and high school sports. In his first column, Nesbitt says he “can’t wait to dive in and get started.”
