After nearly five years of working as a reporter, Trevor Greene was promoted to editor of The Lakeland Times in early July after Dean Hall’s retirement. The newspaper has also added Jacob Link as a reporter. The Times published two stories about the changes on July 24, 2026.
Greene also served as assistant editor for the past two years, and would fill in for Hall during his absence. That made the transition a little smoother, Greene added.
With new reporters starting this spring and summer, Greene said he will look to be a mentor to the newsroom while continuing the culture of the Times’ recently retired editor.
“I think the thing I’m looking forward to most is continuing the culture that Dean kind of built, but also putting my own twist on it,” Greene said. “I really want to kind of be like a mentor to (the reporters here in the newsroom) … I’m just looking forward to being able to kind of help (reporters) write to (their) strengths and put (them) in the best position possible to succeed.”

Link, who grew up in Madison, originally enrolled at UW-Oshkosh for journalism, but added two more majors and one minor to his diploma by the time he walked across the stage this spring.
Link wrote for the Advance-Titan, UW-Oshkosh’s student newspaper. He started as the sports editor, then held positions of assistant news editor and managing editor before becoming the editor-in-chief. On top of that, Link received additional experience as an intern for a community newspaper, The Eastside News, in Madison.
With a solid base of experience, Link said he’s looking forward to learning a new location. Link settled on the Times because he said he liked the area. Telling the stories about the area, which has an endless list of activities — especially in the summer — was another reason Link said he wanted to join the staff.
“I hope, eventually, like, I just become a friendly face in the community and, you know, I’m just here just to report on the facts and what kind of goes on just to inform the public,” Link said. “I hope that I can help further maintain the relationship that (the Times) has with the Lakeland community. I know it’s a very strong relationship and I kind of want to see that continue.”
