The Lac du Flambeau town board will add an item to its meeting agendas beginning with the next regular meeting on May 20. That agenda item will be named “Public comment on issues for a future agenda” and will appear at the bottom of a meeting agenda.
The Lakeland Times’ May 12, 2026 issue contained a piece about the news. According to the story:
Agendas already contain an item for public comment about agenda items at the start of each meeting.
For years, public comment didn’t appear on agendas for the Lac du Flambeau town board, but that changed a couple of years ago when Town Chairman Matt Gaulke began including it. The Town of Lac du Flambeau was the only town The Lakeland Times covers regularly that didn’t provide for public comment at all during a meeting.
Gaulke said near the end of the board’s May 6 meeting that the decision to add the item to meeting agendas is the result of an advisory vote that took place during the town’s April 21 annual meeting.
Gaulke said he would require documentation or any information about a matter a person would like to see on a meeting agenda “at least one week prior” to a regular meeting so the information could be included in the town board’s meeting packet.
“That’s a good call,” town supervisor Dennis Pearson said.
Gaulke then asked if anyone had an item for a future meeting agenda and clarified for Pearson it will be an item for agendas from this point forward.
“If it starts getting abused, then I’ll take it off,” Gaulke said.
