Mark your calendars! The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ Free Fishing Weekend is coming up on June 6 and 7, giving you the chance to cast a line without a fishing license, trout stamp, or salmon stamp. It’s the perfect opportunity to head outside with family and friends, enjoy Wisconsin’s natural beauty, and try something new. Whether you’re an experienced angler or just giving fishing a try for the first time, this weekend offers something for everyone. Here are three great places to check out during the weekend!

Harrington Beach State Park

Head to Puckett’s Pond at Harrington Beach State Park for a fun day of fishing and outdoor adventure in Ozaukee County! The event takes place on June 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

During Free Fishing Weekend, there’s no park entrance fee and no fishing license required, so it’s a great option for all ages. It’s an easy way to spend the day outdoors, make some memories, and enjoy one of Wisconsin’s many beautiful state parks. Ready to sign up? Contact the local DNR warden and get ready for a weekend of free fun!

Kettle Moraine State Forest – Pike Lake Unit

In the beautiful Kettle Moraine State Forest, at the Pike Lake Unit, you’ll find your next big catch and so much more! Join the Friends of Pike Lake for Discovery Day on June 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for an afternoon packed with fun for all ages!

This free event will feature live amphibians and reptiles, telescope viewing, arts and crafts, musical instrument experimentation with guest musician Ryan Miesel, archery with a warden, fishing with a ranger, and a brand-new Makers Market.

After exploring the activities, stop by the Makers Market to enjoy the scenic lakeside views and browse the work of local artists, crafters, and makers. Then, from 2 to 4 p.m., the Ice Age Trail Alliance will lead a guided hike for anyone looking to keep the adventure going—so be sure to pack your hiking shoes!

Buckhorn State Park

Make your way to Buckhorn State Park for the Friends of Buckhorn’s Kids Learn to Fish event on June 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. When you arrive, head to the north shelter and accessible fishing pier for a fun day on the water!

Be sure to register by May 24 at the park office. And don’t worry about admission or the weather! As part of Free Fishing Weekend and Free Fun Weekend, vehicle admission is free, and the event will take place rain or shine.

Whether you’re heading out for a first cast, bringing the family to a park event, or spending the day exploring the outdoors, Free Fishing Weekend is a great reminder of just how much there is to enjoy across the state. Take advantage of this no-license weekend to get outside, explore something new, and make some memories that will last a lifetime!
