On Oct. 1, 2024, the Wisconsin Newspaper Association officially assumed management responsibilities for the Wisconsin Community Papers organization.

A partnership agreement between the WCP and the WNA includes associate business membership in the WNA for all WCP members (visit the WNA website and click on membership to learn more about the benefits of associate business membership).

“I can say this from the WCP perspective — that we’re all extremely excited about this opportunity and what it brings for both organizations,” remarked WCP President Rich Lee, “and how it will help our members in the WCP moving forward, and what benefits it adds to both WNA and WCP and for all of the people within the state of Wisconsin.”

Lee, is the president of the Inter-County Cooperative Publishing Association. Founded in 1933, the ICCPA publishes the (Frederic) Inter-County Leader and five shopper publications.

Archive of Wisconsin Newspapers

At its annual meeting on Oct. 17, the WCP board of directors voted to require that all WCP members upload each edition of its newspaper to the WNA newspaper archive. The archive is used for advertising tear sheets and serves as a historical repository for all Wisconsin newspapers.

Each WCP newspaper company should provide the WNA with a contact responsible for the uploading of newspaper pages.

Customized Newspaper Advertising

WNA advertising placement service Customized Newspaper Advertising (CNA) will serve as the advertising placement agency for the WCP.

About WCP

Established in 1939, Wisconsin Community Papers (WCP) is one of the oldest Free Community Paper associations in the country and a leader in the industry, with a mission, “to be a resource for our members to enable them to be successful now and in the future”. As that resource, WCP provides education and training for members to give them a marketing edge, and acts as a contact point for members regarding business and legal matters impacting the industry.

About WNA

Created by and for Wisconsin’s newspapers in 1853, the WNA exists to strengthen the newspaper industry, enhance public understanding of the role of newspapers, and protect basic freedoms of press, speech and the free flow of information.

WNA is the single point of contact for newspapers in Wisconsin. In addition to serving our member newspapers, WNA serves advertisers and communications professionals through its advertising placement program and news tracking service.

The WNA encompasses these entities:

  • Wisconsin Newspaper Association, a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit trade association.
  • Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
  • WNA Services, Inc., a wholly-owned for-profit subsidiary of the Wisconsin Newspaper Association.

Together, along with the assistance of staff, the three branches of the WNA work together to offer services for its members, advertisers and the general public.
