Greg Borowski, executive editor of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and Kelly Lecker, executive editor of the Wisconsin State Journal, have been named to the Wisconsin Newspaper Association Board of Directors. The board approved the appointments during their meeting on Thursday, Sept. 14.
Borowski, who has worked at the Journal Sentinel for the last 25 years, was named the top editor of his hometown newspaper in March. He succeeds George Stanley, who retired at the end of last year after serving more than 43 years in journalism and is now president of the WNA.
Lecker, a Wisconsin native who previously served as interim editor and managing/investigative editor of the Columbus Dispatch, was named executive editor of the Wisconsin State Journal in March 2022. She succeeded Jason Adrians, who a month earlier was named vice president of local news for Lee Enterprises.
Prior to her time in Columbus, Lecker spent nearly eight years at The Toledo (Ohio) Blade, where she served as projects reporter and state editor. She also worked two years as a reporter for The (Fort Wayne, Ind.) Journal Gazette in her first full-time role out of college.
McDuffie, Walker join WNA Foundation board
On Thursday, the WNA Foundation Board also confirmed the appointments of Ross McDuffie, chief portfolio officer of the National Trust for Local News, and Gregg Walker, publisher of The (Minocqua) Lakeland Times. Both previously served on the association board.
McDuffie is the former publisher of the Wisconsin State Journal. In April, he joined the National Trust for Local News, where he oversees the portfolio of titles owned and operated by the Trust.
Walker has been publisher of The Times since 2006, when he took over the role from his father, Donald Walker, who in 1958 bought the twice-weekly Minocqua newspaper. In 2010, he added The Northwoods River News, a three-days-a-week newspaper based in Rhinelander. He served as president of the association from 2020 to 2021.
