John Rogers, publisher of Winneconne News, dies at 75

Winneconne News publisher John A. Rogers, 75, died on Tuesday, Aug. 22, following a battle with small cell cancer and pulmonary fibrosis.

Born on July 13, 1948, in Eau Claire to Clarence O. and Margaret (Gilbertson) Rogers, he was a 1967 graduate of Winneconne High School. Rogers, who lived his entire life in Winneconne, married Lynn Pedersen on Aug. 15, 1970. The couple was married for 53 years and had two children, Jenna and Kevin.

Growing up, Rogers worked alongside his parents, who were co-owners and co-editors of the News. The newspaper, which has been in publication for 144 years, has been owned and operated by the Rogers family since 1953.

In 1974, John purchased the printing company and newspaper from his parents and served as publisher of the newspaper for 50 years until the time of his death.
