Piper to oversee news, projects and investigations at Journal Sentinel

Rachel Piper

Rachel Piper, who has served as senior director of digital news at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel since 2018, has been named deputy editor of news, projects and investigations. Editor Greg Borowski, who previously held the position, announced the promotion last week.

In the new role, she will work to strengthen the Journal Sentinel‘s news reporting in Milwaukee and statewide — from daily beat coverage to short-term enterprise to deep-dive projects and investigations.

A native of Utah, Piper is a Pulitzer Prize winner, as a key part of the Salt Lake Tribune team that won the 2017 Local Reporting award for its coverage of the shameful treatment of sexual assault victims at Brigham Young University. In addition to her time at the Tribune, Piper also previously served in various editor positions at the Salt Lake City Weekly and The Daily Utah Chronicle.
