Johnson covers the west end of Geneva Lake for the newspaper, as well as the surrounding communities of Genoa City, Bloomfield, Geneva and Linn. His first day with the Regional News was Feb. 28.

Johnson is the former editor and publisher of the Boulder Junction-based FYI Northwoods News, a bi-weekly newspaper he owned from 2010 to 2018. The newspaper, which ceased publication in July 2018, served western Vilas County as well as parts of Iron County and northern Michigan’s Gogebic County.

Prior to his move to Lake Geneva, he served as assistant editor of the Vilas County News-Review in Eagle River for about a year. Other past stops include a stint as The Journal Times‘ business reporter in Racine and three years with The Lakeland Times in Minocqua from 2007 to 2010.

A Racine native, Johnson got his start in journalism with his high school newspaper, the Horlick Herald. He graduated from William Horlick High School in 1983 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications and journalism from Marquette University in 1987.
