A judge on Wednesday ruled Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and former state Supreme Court justice Michael Gableman violated the state’s public records law by refusing to turn over documents and delaying the release of others, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Vos and Gableman “arbitrarily and capriciously denied or delayed access to records,” according to Dane County Circuit Court Judge Frank Remington. He also ruled Vos and Gableman should pay the legal fees for American Oversight, a liberal group that filed three lawsuits after not receiving requested documents related to Gableman’s review of the 2020 election.

Remington, who put his ruling on hold pending a Tuesday hearing, fined Vos, Gableman and the Assembly $1,000 each, The Associated Press reports. If they stand, those fines would likely be paid by taxpayers.
Gableman’s attorney told the AP he would appeal the ruling.
