Warner A. Zimmerman, former publisher of the Burlington Standard Democrat, was born Feb. 13, 1896, in Burlington.
He graduated high school in 1914 and immediately went to work for the family firm, Zimmerman and Sons Publishing Co. Soon after, Zimmerman shipped off to France, where he served 19 months during World War I.
Following his return, Zimmerman purchased an interest in the printing firm during 1919 and worked as a linotype machine operator.
He died on the morning of Nov. 25, 1952, suffering a heart attack in the Standard Democrat newsroom. He was 56.
