Burlington Standard-Press
Inducted: 1958

Louis H. Zimmermann, former editor and publisher of the Burlington Standard Democrat, was born Dec. 31, 1889, a few days after his father, H.E. Zimmermann, purchased the weekly newspaper.

Before Zimmermann was a month old, the family packed up and relocated to Burlington.
He bought his first interest in the paper in 1912. When his father became Burlington postmaster four years later, Zimmermann took over editing and business management of the paper.

He served on multiple private and civic committees throughout his life and was elected Burlington alderman from 1920 to 1923. Zimmermann was also president of the Burlington Park Board, and in 1922 was elected secretary for the Wisconsin Press Association. He held that post for 11 years.

On March 25, 1953, Zimmermann died unexpectedly of a heart attack. He was 63.
